The Jobs Gap: Making inclusive growth work in Africa

Event24th October 2017

Chapter 1

ABOUT

Join TBI’s Head of Inclusive Growth and Private Sector Development, Jonathan Said, and a host of international experts to discuss the implications of our latest paper, The Jobs Gap: Making Inclusive Growth Work in Africa, at its US launch at the Atlantic Council in Washington DC on 6th November.

As that paper makes clear, Africa faces a daunting challenge. If current trends continue, Africa will face a shortfall of 50 million jobs and livelihoods by 2040. Thus, African governments are trying to find a way to keep unemployment levels down and create jobs for the continent’s burgeoning population. To succeed, the approach of government officials and of the international community needs to change. If Africa is to create the jobs and livelihoods needed to ensure a prosperous future, the approach will need to become much more context-specific, strategic, and targeted.

In this conversation, Jonathan Said will present the findings of the paper, followed by a wide ranging discussion as we look at how governments and the private sector can tackle the jobs gap.
